Our client is a young, rapidly growing and recognized leader in the homecare clinical trials field. Headquartered in the UK and with offices in North America. They conduct home clinical trial visits across all major clinical research countries spanning North America, Europe, Asia and Australasia.

Role of HR Advisor

The role of the HR Advisor is to develop and start-up an effective HR function as well as handle Office Operations Management duties to support the Chicago office. This role requires someone who is willing to provide a very high level of hands on and operational activity while contributing to the development of HR policies, practices, processes to establish a solid HR function in the US that supports the growth strategy of the company. This position is 2/3rds HR and 1/3 Office Manager/Facility Manager. Position reports to the Director of HR in the UK.


  • Deliver a comprehensive and effective HR and Office Operations Management service to the US business
  • Employee relations, including managing absence, disciplinary actions, grievances and sickness
  • Implement HR objectives and goals
  • Collate and record metrics for HR Board Report
  • Work with the Talent Acquisition Manager to assist with the recruiting activity in the US including; helping to identify best practices for US recruiting, effective candidate sourcing, advertising, initial screening and interviewing. Communicating with UK HR team to confirm that the company’s offer/contractual processes are followed.
  • Prioritize, screen and respond to mail, email and telephone calls
  • Act as Office Manager and liaison with Building Management to oversee the contractual obligations as a tenant
  • Act as the first point of contact for various contractors and suppliers including; cleaning contractors, external IT provider, stationery suppliers, PAT testing contractor, security company, to arrange deliveries, maintenance, repair works etc.
  • Undertake Fire Warden and First Aid training and maintain appropriate records/supplies
  • Assist with US payroll and benefits processing and administration
  • Assist with roll out and implementation of new US Employee Handbook and associated policies, procedures and processes
  • Design and organise on-boarding programs for New Hires and a carry out HR on-boarding and orientation for all new US based employees
  • Update HRIS and maintain current information for all US employees
  • Ensure all company policies and procedures are up to date in line with current employment law. Ensuring line managers are up to date with changes to any policies
  • Work with senior managers, coaching them and advising on all people issues
  • Deal with complex disciplinary/grievance and HR issues, using HR and Company knowledge evidencing appropriate decision-making skills
  • Record HR expenditures for HR budget
  • Coach managers on performance management issues and processes


  • Bachelor’s Degree or similar
  • PHR or SPHR desired
  • 5 to 15 years HR experience with at least 1 year of HR management
  • Proven and demonstrable success in a HR management role
  • Experience in a fast growth SME (small-medium enterprise)
  • Ability to work using own initiative and as part of a team while maintaining strict confidentiality and discretion
  • Extensive and up to date knowledge of multi-state HR legislation
  • Proficient in all major Microsoft applications; Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint etc.
  • Experience with an HRIS system
  • Strong communication and influencing skills at all levels
  • Able to deliver to a high standard under the pressure of a fast growth environment
  • Strong capability to prioritize workloads
  • High level of discretion and integrity
  • High level of credibility through application of knowledge and expertise.
  • Highly motivated, able to work as part of team and independently
  • Attention to detail and strong commitment to achieving deadlines.
